The Walking Dead Season 5 Recap – Episode 12: Remember

Rick's gang enter the Alexandria Safe Zone in Episode 12 (entitled Remember) Season 5 of AMC's The Walking Dead

Welcome to the fifth annual Hunger Games Walking Dead Games! Yep, Episode 12 (entitled Remember) Season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead totally felt like an awesome new post-apocalyptic games show.

In this episode Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group enters Woodbury the Alexandria Safe Zone and is met by the Governor Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh). Where the Governor (David Morrissey) was not really an elected member of congress, it turns out Deanna actually is! Which means she could really be trying to save the world, or she could just be deluded…

Deanna video interviews Rick’s gang, which is completely fascinating because each of the group have their very own agendas and thoughts on what they would like to get out of Alexandria. While some are honest yet reserved, others are completely stark-faced lying.

And the Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire award goes to….. *drum roll*….. Carol (Melissa McBride)! Yep, while many others play down their attributes, Carol blatantly lies about how kick arse she is. Telling Deanna how much she loved her husband Ed (Adam Minarovich) and how she was so lucky to have Rick’s gang let her hang around on account of the fact she has no skills other than being a den mother. *high five* Totally called their bluff Carol! Totally not cool with the granny clothes though:

Carol trades kick-arsery for Super Gran get up…

While Rick is fairly honest, Michonne (Danai Gurira) tends to keep quiet on just how lethal she is. Yet Deanna sees right through her and by the end of the episode both Rick and Michonne are on police duties.

Carl (Chandler Riggs) is concerned (along with Carol) that even if Alexandria isn’t a death trap waiting to happen, the group will become soft by being behind safe walls. As a result of this, it isn’t long before Carl is jumping the walls and roaming the great outdoors. He manages to bump into his dad while outside and even though Rick discovers someone has pinched his gun stash, they end up having some great father-son walker-killing bonding time together. Carl is also finding it hard to fit back in with the kids his age. Except for that broody-just walked-in-off-the-street chick who sneaks out of Alexandria all the time…

The award for Most Honest Yet Most Unwashed goes to….. Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). Daryl seems to have reverted back to caveman status in this episode and all we get is a series of antisocial grunts. And, yeah, he STILL hasn’t showered and all I kept thinking about in this episode was this meme:

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reddus) STILL hasn't washed in Episode 12 (entitled Remember) Season 5 of AMC's The Walking Dead

Speaking of hygiene, everyone else has a shower and neatens themselves up. Rick shaves off his beard and suddenly he’s not smoking hot any more 😦 Thanks AMC for changing my opinion on man beards and then totally whipping the best one right out from underneath me!

Glenn (Steven Yeun) is called up to do a supplies run along with Tara (Alanna Masterson) and Noah (Tyler James Williams). Yeah, Glenn is still the go to guy when you need someone to do dangerous shit. Out on the run they all end up breaking the supply run rules set out by some arse wipe who is probably important and will certainly end up holding a grudge now that Tara stabbed his walker toy and Glenn ended up knocking him to his arse in front of mummy dearest.

Glenn (Steven Yeun) is awesome in Episode 12 (entitled Remember) Season 5 of AMC's The Walking Dead

All in all, this episode was one of my all time faves. We got to see just how much the group has grown into a family unit and just how tainted their world view really is. I loved seeing the way each and everyone of them struggled with both the distrust that a new group of people brings as well as their need to (perhaps) curb their wild and somewhat now feral ways. This is bought abruptly into the light right at the end of the episode when Rick says to Carol that they will basically stay in Alexandria for as long as it’s safe. If it then becomes unsafe, they will just take it over.

Also, just on a side note, I really do think Alexandria will be a safe haven for Rick’s group. HOWEVER, I do believe they are hiding something. My theory is that whoever attacked Shirewilt is the secret Alexandria are keeping. I think they need an army like Rick’s group in order to protect them from that big bad.

  2. One: Deanna’s ROTC kid got his ass handed to him by a former pizza delivery boy and part-time car booster. Sucks to be him. And you what that got Glenn . . . “Oh, pizza boy? I need you to make a delivery–in my vagina!”

Two: Carl’s in a house for less than a day, and then . . . he’s out of the house. Too bad Lori’s dead: “Rick, have you seen Carl? HE’S NOT IN THE ZONE!”

Three: I’m guessing Carol’s got knives taped to her ankles in those loose slacks she’s wearing. She’s already told Deanna what she’s really good at: treating colds and looking after the flowers.

Four: I’m really waiting to see how Tara and Rosita are gonna start dressing. I’m guessing that, based on the comic, Rosita doesn’t change much, but Tara? Gotta be someone there who’s at least bi. Time to clean up.

Five: Haircut Girl’s Hubby looks like he’s gonna give Rick shit at some point in the future. Yeah, go ahead: do that. Let’s see how that works for you.

Six: Sheriff Rick’s new jacket has a patch on it, and there’s a Latin phrase on that patch that translates as, “We Will Rise Again.” That’s the same thing The Governor said to Michonne and Andrea at one point in Woodbery.

One: Glenn is totally getting laid!
Two: BWAHAHA! Totally would have loved to have seen Lori dealing with Carl as well!
Three: Absolutely agree about those knives! So can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when Super Gran Carol knifes someone… Hopefully it’s the dumb arse Glenn downed.
Four: I think Rosita will get sluttier in her attire. Totally want to see Tara spiffed up though 🙂
Five: Completely agree with you about Haircut Hubby. Think he might be the new Ed…
      Six: Best. Easter egg. EVER!

      • Tara was looking pretty hot on The Talking Dead. I’ve go a picture somewhere with her, Dani, and Christian, the one playing Rosita, all dressed up and out on the town. Oh, yeah . . .

Yeah, when Carol shanks someone it’s gonna be great, ’cause you know she’s got a couple of blades on her.

The New Ed. And he’ll end up Just Like The Old Ed.

And, if they go like the comic, it’s only a matter of time before Maggie’s in a family way . . .

  3. I see we are thinking along the same lines. The group did me PROUD by all sleeping together that first night. I was saying it the whole time. BUT U FORGOT TO MENTION…something I think that will become a problem VERY SOON….RICKS LITTLE HAIRCUT..or better yet..THE HUBBY OF THE HAIR STYLIST seems to be itching for trouble…and to my dismay I think Ricks new woman is the stylist THOUGH IM ROOTING FOR RICK AND MICHONNE! to get preggers!

    • mrszoomby says:

I completely agree about the haircut hubby. Totally gonna be trouble eventually…
I really, REALLY want to see Rick and Michonne hook up 🙂 As for Maggie preggers – love, love, LOVE to see that 😀

      • NOOOO LOL no more screaming babies! im ready to off judith! she is too damn noisy. and I was reading your friend Cassidys response….Tara did look cute on the talking dead EXCEPT FOR THAT GRANDMA OUTFIT! shivers… lol she actually has more character than her character

      • mrszoomby says:

I must watch more of Talking Dead, it’s such a good show 🙂

  4. marctom1 says:

Agreed, best episode for a long, long time.
I really want Rick and Michonne to sneak out to the hayloft and I thought it was on for a moment, then Rick says he’s going for a walk, puts his hand on her shoulder (shock horror!) and then just walks off. They must be desperate. I mean, how long must it be since they had any nooky? Bloody ages I reckon.
Loved it when Rick said ‘We’ll just take it……’; keeps the dream alive and if anyone thinks they’re all going to settle down all Little House on the Prairie style….
