The Walking Dead Season 5 Recap – Episode 2: Strangers

Episode 2 entitled Strangers of AMCs The Walking Dead Season 5Strangers

Sorry I took so long for this recap – I had a bit of a jogging mishap :-/ But, now that my ankle is bandaged and rested, let’s what went down in Episode 2 (entitled Strangers) of AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 5!

This episode starts miles from Terminus and it is very much a meandering journey in which we get to see everyone catching up with each other. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is busy apologising to Carol (Melissa McBride), who is seemingly in the midst of some Lizzie-inspired PTSD. Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is determined to get her out of her rut, but, seriously, all Carol needs is probably just a bit of Pookie lovin’! Tara (Alanna Masterson) is laying her cards on the table by letting Maggie (Lauren Cohan) know about her ties to the Governor (David Morrissey).

In fact everyone is in the process of catching their breath – except for Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) who is determined to head straight on through to DC – with or without food. Bob (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) are all ‘lay some sugar on me‘. In fact, so are Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie, so it is at this point I start wondering which couple is about to get split up…

Now we can’t have a fully quiet episode, so enter Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam) who Rick’s group meets as he is cowering atop a rock while zombies barter for his ankles below. Right away we can tell Father Gabriel has some shit he’s not dealing with so well and Rick is not ready to trust him, no matter what his son, Carl (Chandler Riggs) says. but at least the group have a safe place to stay for a while. If you just ignore those noises in the woods…

Probably just Morgan (Lennie James) anyway…

So Father Gabriel is out of food, but lucky he was in the middle of a food bank run before the shit hit the fan, so Rick takes him and a small group into town to get some supplies. Enter a tribute to Season 2 of The Walking Dead when they encounter a whole pile of swimmer walkers:

We have swimmer walkers again in Episode 2 (entitled Strangers) of AMC's The Walking Dead Season 5

“Hey Glenn, we have a job for you…”

But this time they don’t just send Glenn down into the water, they all go – Father Gabriel included. Which is really a bad idea and we all know it, but Rick is stubborn like that and when Father G freaks out at a walker that used to be someone that he used to know, it comes as no surprise. In the chaos that ensues, Bob gets dragged under by a walker and I am starting to get an idea where this is headed…

So, back at the church and Carl shows Rick some scraping on the outside of the church that may or may not be knife marks. He also finds this:

The writing is on the wall in Episode 2 entitled Strangers of AMCs The Walking Dead Season 5

You’ll burn for this

Yeah, what the fuck have you done Father G?

Meanwhile, there is the issue of transportation. Father Gabriel has a bus they can use – if they can get it running. Carl and Daryl, however, find another car and are determined to get it going as a ‘back up’ vehicle. But not to worry about that right now, because there is a banquet to be had from all the tinned supplies Rick has bought back…

So people are happy and laughing and eating up a storm. The decision to travel with Abraham’s group on the DC is also made. So much happiness, feels a lot like the CDC all over again if you ask me…

Which means Bob has to go outside and have a cry about something which I suspect, but won’t mention here. If you want to my theory on why Bob was crying, then check out the Season 5 conspiracy theories page, otherwise, just keep reading. So, Bob is outside by himself sooking about something when he gets bashed over the head…

But enough on that for the moment because Carol has escaped the frivolities as well and is trying to start up that car she found. Totally a good thing she did too because when Daryl comes out to check up on her a car drives past – and it’s the same one that Daryl saw when Beth (Emily Kinney) was taken back in Season 4! So they jump right in their conveniently newly working car and follow that vehicle. So now three of Rick’s gang are split up. Because having them all back together for more than one episode is SO Season 2…

Hello there Bob. Seems it wasn’t Morgan trailing behind Rick’s group but Gareth (Andrew J. West).

Hello shishkaBOB! That’s right, Bob is now the main menu on their BoBQ (so many puns, so little time).

But don’t worry, it seems Bob will be alive for a while longer yet since the Termites group is small now and cannot afford to kill and store a whole human in one sitting.

Bob becomes a shishkaBOB on Gareths BoBq in Episode 2 entitled Strangers of AMCs The Walking Dead Season 5

MMmmm…tastes like chicken…

  2. I’m surprised no one made the “Bob Burgers” connection.

    Must be the tainted meat . . . 😉

    Nice one mate!
But really, let’s move on from this eating- each-other malarky, it’s doing my head in, specially when I had a mouthful of Burger King at the time.
I still see running walkers, if that’s not an oxymoron, a la WW-Z and I stand by that!
    Great review 🙂
