Well, hasn’t it been a full on year here on my blog? I took on 33 books to review this year and while I read a few three stars ones, they were, overall, a great selection of books! I also interviewed a couple of True Blood stars, attended the biggest True Blood themed Halloween party in Australia, recapped a couple of TV shows and managed to write another book!
So what’s on the cards for 2014?
Well… here’s what you can look forward to:
2014 will be the year of tackling George R.R. Martin! I am currently halfway through A Game of Thrones, but I plan to read ALL of his tomes before HBO’s Game of Thrones returns to our screens early in 2014 (probably very late March or very early April if previous seasons are anything to go by).
Besides George R.R. Martin, I will also be reviewing an exciting new anthology based on the Sookieverse. It’s called Dead But Not Forgotten and is written by some pretty famous authors who are doing their bit to enrich the lives of those who reside in Bon Temps and Shreveport. (I wonder if anyone will tackle the widely debated ending of Dead Ever After?) The book is due for release on May 13th 2014. As yet there is no official cover design, but I have the blurb for you (via Amazon.com):
Charlaine Harris’ smash-hit Sookie Stackhouse series may have reached its conclusion, but the world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, lives on in this all-new collection of 15 stories. Written by a killer lineup of authors, including New York Times best-sellers Seanan McGuire and MaryJanice Davidson, and with an introduction by Charlaine herself, Dead but Not Forgotten puts your favorite characters center stage.
Dead but Not Forgotten was edited by Charlaine Harris and Toni L.P. Kelner.

Besides these marvellous books, I will also be bringing you plenty of new release Indie books to whet your appetite! This year I will still be focusing on the dystopia genre but will also be adding more fantasy novels to the mix. (Plus what ever else tickles my fancy at the time 😉 )
As per the last two seasons, I will be reviewing the last half of Season 4 and the first half of Season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead. The recaps will continue in their normal vein – expect brutal honesty and frequent swearing!
I will also continue my recaps of HBO’s True Blood – which will be particularly poignant since this will be the final season for my fave redneck blood suckers 😦 As well as the True Blood recaps, there will also be plenty of articles to be written for TrueBloodNet, so make sure you head over there now and sign up for email alerts so you don’t miss a single juicy True Blood tidbit!
While I didn’t get time to recap FX’s American Horror Story: Coven this year (we were selling our house as well as purchasing a new one at the time), I will be attempting to fit this into my schedule in 2014.
I will also be trying to squeeze in recaps on NetFlix’s Hemlock Grove in 2014 as well! I watched this show all in two sittings earlier this year and completely LOVED the whole paranormal trashiness of it. So long as the premier of Hemlock Grove doesn’t fall over my recaps of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones (because recapping three TV shows at once is pure madness!), then expect a recap of it here next year.
New Book Releases
2013 was a bit hectic, so the anticipated December release of Unremembered Things has been pushed forward to the end of 2014. This is the first novel in the Wood Nymph Chronicles. Book #2 (entitled Misbegotten Things) is already written but needs some serious editing, so don’t expect it’s release until sometime in 2015!
Even though there will only be one book release for the Wood Nymph Chronicles, expect two books from me in 2014. Metanoia was written during NaNoWriMo in November. I am waiting for January to reread it and then start the editing process in April (to coincide with Camp NaNoWriMo). I am anticipating this book’s release to be in the middle of 2014.
Metanoia is a dystopian zombie thriller. Here’s the blurb to get you started:
Definition: n. a spiritual conversion or awakening; a fundamental change of character
Etymology: Greek ‘change one’s mind, repent’
Marli Anderson has just one task: assassinate Oscar La Monde, the man she once loved.
As assassin for hire for the prestigious Merrick’s Inc., she is sent back to her home town to kill the man she now loathes beyond all others—her husband. Considering they are on opposing sides of the uprising, Marli anticipates an easy task; ‘closure’ they call it. The fact that she can exact her revenge for his past discretions is just the icing on the cake.
When she arrives, the town has changed. The man she hated is unexpectedly welcoming. And the town’s folk—well, they’re just… different. Someone or something has transformed them all into a bunch of zombies. They appear to be harmless – but are they?
As she begins to uncover details of who may be behind the townfolks’ metamorphosis, Marli is left fighting for the truth. Will she and Oscar be able to unravel the web of deception before it’s too late?
Should she trust her heart or her head? Which is less likely to get her killed?
Either way, METANOIA is a heart-stopping zombie apocalypse adventure that will keep you guessing at every twist and turn until the very end.
As well as these two novels, I have reworked my Zombie Apocalypse Now! serial. This year saw it broken up into 10 parts for the new (and scarily good) horror magazine, Sanitarium. Next year will see this reworked as an ongoing series. Each part will be longer, scarier and jam-packed with even MORE zombies. So if you purchased all the series through Sanitarium magazine, you might want to keep your eye out for the new version of this – because parts 9 and 10 have been changed quite dramatically!
But wait, there’s more…
Many years ago I maintained a gardening blog. This year will see my family and I make a tree change and there will be LOADS more information appearing on my Barefoot Gardener blog. So if you are into self sufficiency or are preparing for the zombie apocalypse, make sure you subscribe to this blog for all my latest adventures!
Phew! It looks like 2014 is going to be a busy one!
