Wow! What a ride episode 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead was! Not only did we FINALLY find Carol (Melissa McBride) alive (which, by the way AMC, was the WORST case of ‘we want you to believe a character is dead, but really they’re alive’ scenario EVER), but the two compounds, the prison and Woodbury are starting to get mixed up in each others lives.
While Michonne (Danai Gurira) is hunted by Merle (Michael Rooker) and a small gang, we are reminded as to why the Ricktatorship gang handcuffed the bugger and left him to the biters (speaking of which – line of the episode also goes to Merle for his reference to Michonne leaving him a ‘Biter-gram’). Not only does he dispatch with some biters, but when some of the Michonne-hunting gang are killed and the remaining member starts asking the hard questions, he kills him also rather than have to explain to the Governor (David Morrissey) that Michonne escaped their clutches.
Michonne, meanwhile, has discovered that zombie guts are an awesome camouflage from other zombies. And now that she is finally free from the hunting crew (albeit wounded from a gunshot wound), she manages to find Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) who are out on a food run. Before she can decide if they are friend or foe, bloody Merle arrives on the scene and shakes things up. Glenn recognises Merle, but doesn’t trust him, by extension then, neither does Maggie. To cut things short, Merle takes the pair of them hostage and back to the Governor.
Andrea (Laurie Holden) is finding it hard assimilating into the Woodbury tribe since she is happy to jump the fence to kill zombies. She is also happy to jump the Governor. It will be interesting to see what happens IF the Governor ever lets on that he now has her friends hostage.
Meanwhile, back at the prison, our fave survivor with the least amount of showtime, Daryl (Norman Reedus) and a small crew are helping to reclaim the prison from the biters who were let in a couple of episodes ago. They encounter a door that someone (or as AMC wants us to believe, ‘something’) is trying to open. They decide to kill the zombie on the way back since it seems to weak to push the door open. Moving on down the cell, and surprise, surprise, Daryl finds a zombie who has Carol’s knife stuck in it. Of course, he still thinks Carol is dead and goes back to the first cell with the intent of seeking retribution on the last remaining zombie there. Low and behold, when he finally opens the door, he finds…..Carol. Ta-Da! She’s weak though and he has to carry her back.
Now, the biggest question since last week’s episode has been: “Who’s on the phone?” While you have read some of the possible theories, we find out that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is in fact going mad (or processing his wife’s death, depending on which way you look at it). After speaking to people he’s known who have died, and then speaking to Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), Rick pulls out of his fugue and returns to the tribe.
A heartfelt reunion is in order and he welcomes his new baby. It’s very endearing. Then he spies something off into the distance. Passing the new baby to Carl (Chandler Riggs), he slowly makes his way to the prison boundary.
Enter Michonne and a basket full of baby food.
How on earth did Michonne manage to track a car back to the prison? Was this week everything you expected?
